Working on my second Youtube Video

I am at the beginning of my content creation journey and I have to admit, it’s asking me a lot deeper questions of myself and who am I more than I thought.

Some questions come to mind:

  • What kind of stuff do you want to share with the world?
  • What would you do if you didn’t have to work for a living?
  • What’s something you would talk endlessly about and never get tired of?
  • Are you willing to make the commitment and carve some time out for this.

I totally realize that it’s not thaaaaat serious but it’s still some honest truths you have to face when you want to take this seriously and be committed to it.

Especially exploring this while maintaining a full-time gig that demands a lot of time and energy from you.

I am working on my second video and I will admit that I bit off more than I can chew. At the moment it’s sitting around 25 minutes and has taken over 2 weeks of scripting, shooting, and editing.

My plan was to get 2 videos out a month but I’ve only released one video in January and we’re more than halfway through Feb and I haven’t released a video yet, and I’ve been beating myself up over it.

But I realized I was having a lot of fun editing, adding some animations, and learning how to work new video editing software along the way.

This brings me back to this whole thing “..asking deeper questions of myself.” Why was I doing this? Is it worth the extra stress, time, learnings, and beating myself up over? And the answer is: It depends.

It depends if I am doing this for money or to explore my creativity:

  • If I was doing it for the potential of making money, then no. Because it would just be another job. I wouldn’t be doing it for the joy of just doing it. I already spend a significant amount of time on a job that brings in money, and I don’t want another.
  • If I was doing it for the creativity and to bring out my inner kid who used to make these videos for the pure entertainment of just creating, then ABSOLUTELY YES!

What shifted my mind a bit was watching some older 2007, 2008, 2009 youtube videos before the platform could offer to pay you a penny. People were creating just to create. Because it brought them joy and it brought joy to others.

This is the reason I don’t mind spending over 2 weeks on an insignificant video and channel, just for the very fact the process brings me joy. Although I hope it goes way faster and smoother as time goes on. As long as I am excited about creating, writing, & editing, it’s all well worth the ride.

My new video will be a tutorial on how to code and deploy a website for beginners. I hope it’ll spark curiosity in people who watch to dive more into the web dev. But if not, it brought curiosity and self-reflection to me, and sometimes, that’s enough of a reason.

Thanks for reading ❤️
